Tracking: 101

Tracking is an ancient art that engages the two sides of the brain. Reasoning skills and imagination get exercised. First you get to think like a detective, then a scientist, and finally you become a story teller creating a "vision" of the animal's presence that can be quite vivid! Tracking fosters a feeling of connection to animals that is deeper than if you had actually seen the animal. The heightened attention to our surroundings strengthens our connection to the land, the weather, the season. Suddenly the timing of the last rain and what kinds of trees are in the area becomes something of intense interest. The connectedness of everything becomes so utterly apparent, and utterly beautiful.
